This project has the aim of re-evaluating the negative and positive impact of living in a modern digitalised world. In the course of this group task we will test the difficulty of abstaining from digital devices in a highly digitalised environment and explore the political impact such has on our everyday lives. We will focus on how digital devices change and influence various areas of everyday life, such as: inter-human relationships, the creation of multiple online personalities through online platforms, hobbies and interests and the possible surveilance of the individual through his or her digital devices by the government or other people.
We will attempt to achieve this by doing the following project;
First we will have one week of observing our personal dependency on digital devices and record it as accurately as possible.
The following week we will all as a group abstain from the following technology as much as we can:
- Cell phones
- Computers
- The Internet
- Television
- Any other electronical entertainment devices
We will document the project throughout that week by having a shared book in which we will handwrite our experiences. As an other means of documentation, disposable cameras will be one of the exceptions. Afterwards we will scan in the pages and upload the result of our experience.
Apart from this manifesto, every individual will write a personal manifesto in order to explain in detail, to what extent he or she will abstain from technology and further tojustify exceptions which differ from this manifesto.
We will be working towards creating an event by which we will be able to engage with the larger public to draw their attention towards the political relevance of digital devices in their everyday lives.
We are all quite aware of the irony which gets created by using a blogg to document a digital detox, we hope you enjoy it regardless.
